Spring is here! Outside my window the sun is shining brightly and there seems to be a growing optimism in the air. With each passing day, you can definitely tell that a new season has sprung. But before getting into the new spring launches, trends and discoveries, I want to spare a moment to take stock of my best-loved beauty bits from the passing winter months. This post will be a long one, so grab a cuppa!
For my base I’ve been relying on some old favourites for a healthy glow that stays in place without being heavy. Chanel Vitalumière Aqua is thin in consistency but provides a medium coverage in a natural, skin-like way. This winter I found that Benefit’s the Porefessional primer is an excellent partner placed underneath, not only for filling in pores but also for smoothing over any patches of dry winter skin. My dark circles have been masked by the Bobbi Brown Corrector on most days, and any blemishes hidden with Nars’ Radiant Creamy Concealer. These two magic cover-ups have saved many bad skin days.
For the colour portion of my make-up routine, I carried the Chanel fall 2015 collection “Automnales” through the winter season as well. The colours are neutral and earthy with a playful twist of green that was out of my comfort zone but subtle enough to ensure a sophisticated result. I have been a long-standing fan of how Chanel does colours and this collection did not disappoint.
The eyeshadow quad Les 4 Ombres in 245 Tissé D’Automne features four baked shadows; an iridescent light pink, an olive green with gold shimmer, a mid-tone shimmery bronze and a matte blackened green. The Stylo Yeux Waterproof eyeliner in 921 Pomme de Pin goes wonderfully with the collection. It’s a very dark brown, almost black, that really complements and grounds the look. In terms of consistency I feel it is a little more creamy than the usual Stylo Yeux eyeliners, but it sets and stays in place just as well. Last but not least, Joues Contraste blush in 260 Alezane is the standout product for me from this collection. I was a little on the fence at first as it does contains glitter particles, but in true Chanel fashion the specks are very fine and mostly blend away to create a healthy sheen on the cheeks, not a glitter slick.
Some quick swatches for you:
(I expect the collection is mostly sold out by now but at times it’s possible to find individual pieces for sale after the end of a season. If you do – grab these beauties!)
On the nail front I like to pull out the dark and vampy shades in the wintertime. Some of my absolute favourites are YSL La Laque Couture polishes in 20 Brun Parnasse, a deep brown cream, and 28 Bronze Aztec, a gorgeus black base packed full with golden shimmer. For perfume I fell back in love with the Narciso Rodriguez For Her EdP. It’s a sensual musky blend with top notes of rose and peach. Perfect for darker months or when you want a richer feminine scent.
So those were my fall and winter favourites for 2015. They’re all neutral enough to be wearable and beautiful year round, and I’ll definitely keep them in rotation going forward. But I have already made a cheeky spring purchase (or two) and am really looking forward to changing thing up for the new season ahead.
What were your favourite beauty products this winter? Any same as mine? Any you would recommend I should try? I’m all ears;-)
